Lee Piano Studio Policies for June 2026-June 2027

These piano lessons policies are strictly enforced and apply to all students as well as the parents/guardians of students under 21 years old who are studying piano at Lee Piano Studio.

Tuition and Payment:

Tuition reserves a lesson time specifically for a student and is non-refundable. It will increase periodically to reflect the cost of living. According to our tuition payment policies, tuition is paid in 10 equal monthly payments on the 15th of each month, starting from August 15 through May 15. Payments received after the 15th of the month incur a $15 late fee. Tuition mailed to the studio at 26 Reynolds Farm Rd., New Milford, CT 06776, must arrive by the 15th of the month.

Monthly tuition fees for private lessons are as follows: 60-minutes: xx, 45-minutes: xx, and 30-minutes: xx for preschool students.

A materials/registration fee of $110 reserves a student’s time in the teaching schedule. For students taking RCM exams, the materials/registration fee is $160. This fee covers the cost of music provided to students, incentive programs, CDs, and rental fees for concert venues. If more than one child from a family is enrolled concurrently, the fee is $90 for each additional sibling. The registration/materials fee is non-refundable. Student events sponsored by entities outside the studio are not included in this fee. Checks should be made payable to Roxane Lee. A $25 fee will be charged for returned checks.

Summer Lessons:

The summer policy is flexible, allowing students to pay for the number of lessons they wish to take at the first lesson of the summer.

Schedule Changes:

Changing a lesson time during the school year can be challenging. If a request for a schedule change cannot be accommodated, students can either keep their existing lesson time or join the waitlist. Registration secures a specific lesson time for that student, which they will retain for the remainder of the school year.

Cancellations/Studio Closings:

No rescheduled lessons are provided for cancellations made by students. If the teacher must reschedule a lesson, two alternate dates will be proposed to the student. If the student cannot attend either of those times, the lesson will be forfeited. A student who misses a lesson will also forfeit that session. If needed, a student who cancels can be offered an alternate lesson time later in the same week if availability permits. Studio closings are documented in the studio calendar found at leepianostudio.com, which may be subject to change and includes three weeks of unscheduled closings.

Royal Conservatory Music Development Program and Performance Opportunities:

RCM Level 5 students must enroll in at least 60-minute lessons to participate in RCM exams. Level 6 students and above must have a minimum of 90 minutes of instruction time weekly. Community service concerts are open to all students, and memorization is not mandatory. Participation in studio concerts is strongly encouraged, especially for students aged 18 years and under, where memorization of solo pieces for the recitals is required. It is expected that the audience at recitals maintains a respectful environment and gives performers their full attention. 

Instrument/Accessories:

Students should practice on an acoustic piano, tuned at least once a year.  Students are encouraged to have an adjustable bench, a working metronome or app, and a pedal extender if needed. The teacher can provide recommendations for suitable models.

Practice:

Students’ practice should focus on achieving specific goals, with daily practice equaling or exceeding the lesson duration for optimal results. Assignments should be completed weekly, including practice at a slow tempo with precision, active listening, and self-assessment. Parents of minor students should supervise practice time and ensure weekly assignments are achieved.

Teacher, Parent and Student Communication:

Communication from the studio occurs via email, and students should reach out to the teacher with any questions during the week.

Student Attendance:

Students are expected to arrive and depart punctually. Please limit arrivals to a maximum of five minutes before the scheduled lesson. Lesson time begins and concludes as scheduled, and tardiness will not extend lesson duration. 

Studio Environment and Personal Hygiene:

Please refrain from wearing cologne, perfume, or any strong scents during lessons, as I am sensitive to them. Shoes should be removed and placed on the shoe tray by the door, and socks are required in the studio. No food or beverages—including gum or candy—are allowed inside. 

Students should have clean hands with neatly trimmed nails. Nails may be trimmed during the lesson if they inhibit proper hand position. Acrylic nails are not allowed, as they prevent correct playing techniques. Please use hand sanitizer before and after touching the piano.

Dismissals:

Students may be dismissed for reasons such as, but not limited to, repeated policy violations, excessive absences, failure to attend studio events without notice, late tuition payments, lack of progress due to insufficient practice, disrespect to others, or abuse of studio property. Once dismissed, a student cannot continue piano study at Lee Piano Studio.

Termination of Lessons/Liability Waiver:

A written notice, along with one month of paid tuition, is required for students wishing to terminate lessons. If the student is a minor, the notice must be signed by a parent. Lee Piano Studio and Roxane Lee are released from any liability for injuries resulting from participation in piano lessons, recitals, group classes, and other piano events, both in and outside the studio.
